Harry Reid – A Really Bad Historian
On the floor of the Senate, Harry Reid (Dem NV) compared the current passing of government-run health care to Lincoln’s daunting task of ending slavery. Harry whines that back it’s all the Republicans fault, now just as back in the day.Only one problem though, his history is 100% WRONG! Desperate and lying, Harry forgets that is was Abraham Lincoln (A Republican) and his party that ended slavery. Now Harry and the Democrat party are the ones who want to enslave us all. Talk about irony.
UPDATE:
The Nevada Democrat, in a sweeping set of accusations on the Senate floor, also compared health care foes to those who opposed women’s suffrage and the civil rights movement — even though it was Sen. Strom Thurmond, then a Democrat, who unsuccessfully tried to filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and it was Republicans who led the charge against slavery. Oops…..
Double Update from the WSJ
Historians also faulted Mr. Reid’s curious reference to the Senate civil rights debates of the 1960s. After all, it was Southern Democrats who mounted an 83-day filibuster of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. The final vote to cut off debate saw 29 Senators in opposition, 80% of them Democrats. Among those voting to block the civil rights bill was West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, who personally filibustered the bill for 14 hours. The next year he also opposed the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Mr. Byrd still sits in the Senate, and indeed preceded Mr. Reid as his party’s majority leader until he stepped down from that role in 1989.
The final reason Mr. Reid’s comments were so inapt and offensive is that the battles for women’s suffrage and civil rights he referred to were about expanding freedom. That’s not what the 2,074-page health care bill being debated in the Senate today does, with its 118 new regulatory boards and commissions. Mr. Reid may reach his needed 60 votes to pass his bill this month, but he is pursuing it using the most tawdry and deplorable of tactics.
It is important that we do everything we can to keep Harry in front of the cameras as often as we can. His words of wisdom never cease to amaze. Nevada voters will remember these words of wit too.

I’m not sure but I think I’m right about something. Senator Reid calls a majority of taxpayers that don’t want a government takeover “racist women haters”. My thinking is that almost ALL people that would actually believe it, weren’t listening, don’t know what’s going on, and don’t even know who Harry Reid is. The people he pissed off however, are those of us that do listen, do know what’s going on, do weigh options and the value of our politicians and how they support us and will actually vote his ass out of office because he insulted us and showed us what a partisan hack sellout he really is. I think I’m on to something here. The mindless will either not vote in the next election or will vote Democrat regardless, so his comments mean nothing to them. Ipso Facto the more he opens his mouth, the more informed taxpayers and voters recognize the gas bag he truly is and will vote for someone else. He just did his opposition a big favor and the beauty of it is that he is so insulated by Washington insiders and admirers that he doesn’t even realize it.
I’m sorry. Did you say something? Dancing with the Stars is on and I wasn’t paying attention.
