What Budget Crisis? Time to go on a Cruise

LEFFArizona is getting some national press these days about having not only one of the worst economies in the nation, but also one of the nation’s worst budget predicaments [second only to California].  So what’s a State congressional rep to do?  Easy, take a cruise.  The money line is in the third paragraph.

Lawmakers and Gov. Jan Brewer have talked about doing a special session to cut around $250 million from education and welfare programs, re-establish policy moves affecting a dozen state agencies, and possibly to settle an $18 million judgment owed to Science Foundation Arizona.

All of which makes the likelihood of a quick special session starting Tuesday a little less likely. Senate Republicans were asked their availability the week of Nov. 23, as they tried to get assurance that there would be enough votes to pass the special-session bills.

Sen. Barbara Leff, [R-President Pro Tempore of the Senate], is leaving Friday for a long-planned Caribbean cruise.

Ever have a job where the boss told you that you had to cancel your trip because you had to work that week?  How’d that turn out for you?  You worked, didn’t you?  Barb sees things just a bit differently.  Apparently she puts the residents of Arizona way down on the list of her urgent priorities.

You can call her office at (602) 926-4486.  But remember she won’t be there.  Or you can email her too. I’m sure she’ll be checking her email while sitting by the pool working on her tan.
