I don’t think we needed a study to figure this out….
People who buy organic food tend to act like jerks, according to a study published on May 15th in the journal of Social Psychological and Personality Science.
MSNBC states that Renate Raymond, a 40-year-old arts administrator in Seattle told them:
“I stopped at a market to get a fruit platter for a movie night with friends but I couldn’t find one so I asked the produce guy. And he was like, ‘If you want fruit platters, go to Safeway. We’re organic.’ I finally bought a small cake and some strawberries and then at the check stand, the guy was like ‘You didn’t bring your own bag? I need to charge you if you didn’t bring your own bag.’ It was like a ‘Portlandia skit.’ They were so snotty and arrogant.”
The study’s lead author, Kendall Eskine, is an assistant professor of the department of psychological sciences at Loyola University in New Orleans. According to the study, Eskine stated:
“There’s a line of research showing that when people can pat themselves on the back for their moral behavior, they can become self-righteous.”

We finally told the increasingly self righteous, vegan, organic nazi in our family that menus and recipes will no longer be altered to adhere to her gustatory sensitivities. We serve bacon and steak at our house. Live around it or move out.
It is not a pleasant experience going to the farmers market, or sunflower…. they do have an “attitude” about themselves that is just a bit condescending… guess that is why i eat “regular” veggies…(and didn’t they grow in the dirt like all the rest? so aren’t they “organic” too?) just thinking out loud
I have to defend Sunflower market. Their produce used to suck the big wah-doodle. Then something changed. The produce is better and cheaper than most and the organic selection and quality far exceeds any of the bigger supermarkets.
Also, I have found the workers in produce, the meat department, bakery and check-out to be some of the nicest, friendliest people I deal with in town.
Organic Schmorganic. What the hell? What’s one more pesticide in the grand scheme of things? Toxins will probably make us immune to the radioactivity when the Big Blast comes.
People wonder why there is an increase in Alzheimers and cancer. Could it be all crap their spraying on our vegetables? What’s a little petroleum ingested among friends?
… i guess if bugs can become immune,…. so can we,… so what if cancer is up and heart disease kills more people,… we are all living to long anyway,..and with all these people living so long,… there will no room to grow organic things….LOL
