Gabby Giffords campaigns in Delaware ??
GREENVILLE — Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords ate breakfast more than 2,000 miles from her hometown of Tucson on Monday.
She wasn’t there for the breakfast pastries, bagels and lox or even the omelet bar. Giffords came to Delaware for a fundraiser that garnered her re-election campaign $500 to $2,400 a ticket, an audience with First State power brokers and praise from Vice President Joe Biden.
Biden described Giffords as one of the Democratic Party’s rising stars. But his visit was more than just a favor to a fellow politician.
In between promoting President Barack Obama’s health care plan, visiting troops in Iraq and playing point man for federal stimulus funds, Biden’s been attending fundraisers for Democratic congressmen and congresswomen and other candidates facing tough races in the midterm elections.
On Monday, Biden said holding on to House seats — including Giffords’ — that are held by Democrats in traditionally Republican areas is critical to pushing through the current administration’s legislative agenda.
“If they take them back, this is the end of the road for what Barack and I are trying to do,” Biden said at the fundraiser, held on the back patio of the home of Wilmington lawyer Stuart Grant and his wife, Suzanne. “This is their one shot. If they don’t break the back of our effort in this upcoming election, you’re going to see the things we said we’re for [will] happen.”
Considering the residents of Arizona had to drag Gabby to town-hall meetings in Arizona, it is disingenuous for her to be campaigning on the East Coast. Call her office and ask her why she’s in Delaware instead of Arizona. Her D.C. number is 202-225-2542.
